Dakshineswar Kali Temple: A Brief Overview
Built in 1855 by Rani Rashmoni after a divine vision, Dakshineswar Kali Temple is a major spiritual site on the banks of the Hooghly River in Kolkata. Dedicated to Goddess Kali, it is closely linked to the mystic saint Sri Ramakrishna Paramahansa, who served here as a priest and achieved spiritual enlightenment.
Architecture & Design:
The temple is an architectural gem in Bengali Navaratna (nine-spired) style, with a central shrine, 12 Shiva temples, a Radha-Krishna temple, and ornate carvings. A black stone idol of Goddess Kali stands on Lord Shiva in the sanctum.
