Conception & Purpose:
Belur Math Ramkrishna Mission Founded by Swami Vivekananda in 1897, Belur Math serves as the headquarters of the Ramakrishna Math and Mission. Its goal is to spread Sri Ramakrishna’s teachings, promote religious harmony, and blend spirituality with social service through education, healthcare, and disaster relief.

Foundation & Construction:
Swami Vivekananda laid the foundation in 1898 on the banks of the Hooghly River. Built with donations from Western disciples, the main temple was completed in 1938 under Swami Vijnanananda. Its architecture reflects Hindu, Christian, and Islamic styles, symbolizing unity.

Architecture & Design:
Designed to represent the unity of all religions, the temple blends Hindu, Islamic, Christian, and Buddhist elements. The complex includes serene gardens, water bodies, and idols of Ramakrishna, Sarada Devi, and Vivekananda. Thoughtful lighting and layout enhance its spiritual ambiance.
